Edit by transcript

Your recording is transcribed on your Mac as you record. Delete a sentence from the transcript and it is cut from the video. Review the suggested filler words and remove them together.

How it works

Transcription runs on device while you record, so the editor opens with the transcript in place. There is no upload and no processing queue. The transcript and the timeline are two views of the same recording.

  • Click a sentence in the transcript to move the playhead there.
  • Select text and delete it, and that section is cut from the video.
  • The timeline stays available for frame-level trims when you need them.

Remove filler words

One command finds filler words such as "um", "uh", and "you know" across the whole recording. Review the cuts before you apply them, or apply them all at once. Filler-word detection covers English.

Tighten silences

The app finds pauses longer than a length you set and lists them as proposed cuts. Review them one by one or apply them all. These cuts follow the same rules as transcript edits, so the timeline and the captions stay in sync.

Title, summary, and chapters

The app generates a title, a short summary, and chapter markers from the transcript, on your Mac. You can edit all three. Chapters are written into the exported file and appear in players that support them. The summary and the chapter list are included when you copy the transcript.

Fix mistakes without re-recording

If you misspeak in the middle of an otherwise good take, delete the sentence from the transcript and keep going. Most recordings do not need a second take.

Captions follow your edits

Captions are generated from the same transcript, so every cut you make keeps the captions in sync. There is no separate caption pass to redo. See camera and captions.

Use the transcript outside the app

Copy the transcript with timestamps in one click. Paste it into a bug report, a doc, or a coding agent's chat alongside the clip. The transcript records your narration word for word. See recording for coding agents.

Languages

Transcription uses the speech models built into macOS and supports the languages macOS supports for on-device speech recognition, including English. A language model downloads from Apple the first time you use it and runs on your Mac after that.

Where transcription runs

The speech model runs on your Mac. Your voice is not sent to us or to a transcription service, and transcription works offline once the language model is installed. See privacy.
