Frequently asked questions

Does it record system audio?

Yes. Screen Recording records system audio and your microphone at the same time, on separate tracks, so you can adjust either one later.

Is there a watermark or time limit?

No. Recordings have no watermark and no time limit. Recording length is limited by the free space on your disk.

Can I pause a recording?

Yes. Pause from the menu bar or with the keyboard shortcut, and resume when you are ready. The pause is removed from the recording.

Does it show my clicks and keystrokes?

Yes. Click highlights and a keystroke display are part of the edit, and the cursor is recorded apart from the picture, so you can hide it, enlarge it, or smooth it. You set them in the editor after recording and can change them and export again.

Do I need an account?

No. Screen Recording works without an account. You can sign in to a Plus One account with Sign in with Apple, a passkey, or a code we email you, and every Iterator app on your Mac signs in too. The account holds your sign-in and never holds your recordings. Sharing uses the share services already on your Mac, such as AirDrop, Messages, and Mail, and the person you send a video to needs no account.

How much does it cost?

Screen Recording is free, with every feature and every update. It sells Plus One plans and credit packs through the checkout at account.plusone.dev, and they add credits for features that run in the cloud. A new Plus One account gets 100 free credits. Screen Recording runs every feature on your Mac, so it uses no credits. See pricing.

Where are my recordings stored?

On your Mac, as documents in a folder you choose. The default is ~/Movies/Screen Recording, and each recording opens in the app from the Finder. The app does not upload recordings, and it stores nothing in any cloud. A recording leaves your Mac only when you send the MP4 with a share service you pick. We operate no content servers.

Click Share in the editor's toolbar and pick AirDrop, Messages, Mail, Notes, or another share service in the macOS share menu. The app makes a 1080p H.264 MP4 as a temporary copy, with the captions burned in when they show in the editor, and the service opens with it. The person you send it to gets a standard MP4 that plays anywhere, with no app or account. To choose the resolution, codec, and location yourself, choose Export File… in the same menu instead. Does the app send anything to you?

The app checks for updates. It sends crash and performance reports to Iterator's Lookout service by default, and you can turn off Share diagnostics in Settings to stop them. Recordings, audio, and transcripts are not uploaded. The privacy policy lists what is sent.

How does editing by transcript work?

The app transcribes your recording on your Mac as you record. In the editor, the transcript and the timeline stay in sync. Select a sentence in the transcript and delete it, and that section is cut from the video. Choose Remove Filler Words…, review the suggested cuts, and choose Apply to remove them. Captions follow every edit.

What languages does transcription support?

The languages macOS supports for on-device speech recognition, including English. The language model downloads from Apple the first time you use it. Filler-word detection covers English.

How much disk space does a recording use?

Recordings are stored at native resolution, so size depends on resolution, frame rate, and length.

What does it require?

A Mac with Apple silicon and macOS 26.4 or later. Transcription runs on device, so once the speech language model is installed, no internet connection is needed to record, edit, or export. Screen Recording needs no account.
